Linear voltage regulators are electronic components that maintain voltage stability. The resistance of the voltage regulator will depend on the load and the input voltage to achieve a stable output voltage. Simple linear regulators may consist of only Zener diodes and a series resistor, but complex linear regulators may contain multiple components: a reference voltage, an error amplifier, and a power transmission element. Linear voltage regulators are widely made into integrated circuits, but also solid state electronic devices or vacuum tube and other discrete components.
