Potentiometers, Variable Resistors

Potentiometer is a kind of variable resistors. It is usually composed of a resistance and a rotating or sliding system. That is, a moving contact is moved on the resistance body to obtain part of the voltage output. Potentiometer still can be classified by the material of resistance body, if the type such as wire wound, synthetic carbon film, metallic glass glaze, organic solid core and conductive plastic. Electrical performances are mainly decided by the material used. Variable resistor, a resistor whose resistance value can be adjusted, used when the circuit current needs to be adjusted or the resistance value needs to be changed. Variable resistors can change the characteristics of the signal generator, dim the light, start the motor, or control its speed. Variable resistors can act as resistors in electronic circuits. The difference between it and the general resistance is that its resistance value can be changed continuously in a certain range. In some cases where resistance value is required to change and is not often changed, variable resistance can be used.
